How a Summer Detox Can Beautify Your Skin

Warmer weather means more time outdoors, and as much as the sun’s vitamin D can give us a sun-kissed glow, environmental pollutants and toxins can cause our skin to look dull, dry, and blotchy. Even the minerals in our tap water can cause dullness in our skin and hair. Carbon monoxide, for instance, can damage our skin’s protective barrier and lead to signs of aging, skin irritation, and redness. Instead of hiding indoors, make some small changes to your diet and do a detox for clear skin so you can transform the way you look.

Tips for Your Skin Detox

Detoxes for skincare come in a variety of forms, and can either treat your skin from the inside out, or from the outside in. Here are three effective summer skin detox tips you can add to your weekly routine, to give you that gorgeous summer glow, and beautify your complexion.

Drink Plenty of Water
One of the most effective skin detoxifying tips, is to drink plenty of water. Keeping the body well hydrated helps you flush out toxins, and revive your complexion. Even if you find water to be boring, there are many different ways you can add flavour, without compromising the health benefits. Cut up some cucumber, lemon, and mint, and add them to your water bottle the night before. In the morning, you will have a refreshing and deliciously hydrating drink that you can take with you for the day. You can also add fruit to your water like strawberries and raspberries, with slices of orange, peach, or watermelon. If you want a real detox, create a drink made of water, lemon, and apple cider vinegar. Drink it warm and your body will thank you for the liver detox.

Get Your Greens
If eating vegetables isn’t your thing, you can blend all of them together for a vitamin enriched green drink. By adding spinach, kale, cucumber, and stalks of celery, you can make a tasty drink that provides necessary vitamins such as A, C, and K, as well as plenty of antioxidants. Plus, the beta carotene from the kale will give you a beautiful glow.

Exfoliate Daily
Exfoliating your skin does not mean scrubbing it vigorously once a week. If you rub your skin too hard you can irritate it in the process, adding to the damage. To maintain your glow all summer long, gently exfoliate your skin daily to remove the dead skin cells that pile up and dull your complexion. You can purchase a cleanser from the store that includes tiny exfoliating particles, but make sure the particles are invisible and feel like tiny grains of sand between your fingers. Or, you can create your own scrub, by mixing some melted coconut oil to sugar, and adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Not only will this homemade scrub leave your skin feeling smooth, the coconut oil will moisturize your skin and the essential oils will leave you smelling incredible.

How Detoxification Benefits Your Skin

Try any of the three tips above, and you will notice detox benefits for your skin. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and one of its major functions is to eliminate toxins. But, when there is an excess of toxins in your system, it can cause skin imperfections. When you detoxify your body, you are eliminating this excess of toxins from your body, and providing it with the nutrients it needs to bring out its best cells so you can glow!
