Toronto, Canada, June 2, 2015 –Anti Aging Toronto Clinic (www.AntiAgingToronto.ca), a Toronto-based provider of advanced hair and skin restoration treatments, is announcing tips on how clients can best protect themselves and their skin from the summer weather following a skin treatment.
“It’s not just that people need to put on sunscreen on a bright day,” says Silvia Derasner, Medical Esthetician and co-founder of Anti Aging Toronto Clinic. “Summer comes with more sunlight, higher temperatures, and people being outdoors more often and doing things like going to the beach. For these reasons, precautions need to be taken.”
The concern arises from the fact that treatments such as microdermabrasion and chemical face peels remove the acid mantel, a very fine film on the surface of the skin that acts as a barrier to bacteria, viruses, and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin. The exposed, unblemished, and younger-looking lower layers will be sensitive to irritants for the first few days and up to the first week following a treatment.
“People will want to use a gentle sunscreen, even if it’s cloudy out, for the 48 hours following a treatment,” Derasner notes. “The beach and swimming pools are inadvisable for the ensuing week as well. Fun in the sun is important, but so is avoiding chlorine or sand particulates that will agitate the fresh skin.”
It is advised that those who have plans for summer outings should take care of their skin treatments several days to a week in advance to avoid these concerns.
“While people can still get advanced skin treatments during the summer, they need to be smart about what they do afterwards,” Derasner concludes. “Their face experts can provide them with personalized tips on how to best care for skin immediately following a skin treatment.”
